Mavericks Close Out Homestand Against ECC-Foe Pioneers

The Mercy College men’s and women’s basketball teams conclude their three-game homestand against the C.W. Post Pioneers in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader starting at noon.

- The Mercy College women are 4-10 overall and 3-5 in the league and are in the hunt for win No. 5 for head coach Kelli Dunlay. The Mavericks have faired well in ECC games at home, winning 3-of-5. The Mavericks look to rebound after a 76-65 defeat to the Dowling Golden Lions on Wednesday night.
- C.W. Post’s men’s team are currently riding a seven-game winning streak, while the women have reeled off eight consecutive victories. The C.W. Post women are second in the conference, behind ECC rival Bridgeport. Junior guard Janea Aiken leads the Pioneers in scoring with 15.6 points per game.
- Maverick junior Delmara Reece (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) has led the Mavericks consistently in scoring and rebounds and has posted nine double-doubles in 14 games. Reece is third in the NCAA Division II in rebounds per game (12.1). The leader is Anita Bulcher from Newberry. Junior Ashley Borofsky (Southington, Conn./Southington) paces the squad in scoring with 204 points (14.6 ppg).
- The Mercy College men are 1-14 overall and 1-7 in the conference. Head coach Sean O’Connor and the Mavericks are coming off a 99-69 lost to Dowling on Wednesday evening and looking to get their second win of the year. Junior Hasaan Powell (Bridgeport, Conn./Iowa Central CC) leads the Mavericks in scoring with 12.7 ppg (190 points).
- C.W. Post (10-4, 6-2 ECC) has won its last seven contests. Their last triumph came on Jan. 13 against Bridgeport, where the Pioneers won 69-64. C.W. Post currently sits in second place in the ECC, behind Bridgeport. They are led by Nemanja Jokic with 15.7 ppg.
