Mercy College Athletics Joins the Fight Against Breast Cancer with
Pink Zone Doubleheader on February 18
|
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The entire Mercy College athletics department has joined the fight against breast cancer as it will support the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone initiative, a global, unified effort for the organization's nation of coaches to assist in raising awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
The Mavericks will host Adelphi University in an East Coast Conference (ECC) basketball doubleheader on Wednesday, February 18 in the Mercy College Gymnasium at the Dobbs Ferry campus. The women will tip off first at 5 p.m.
The women will be wearing pink t-shirts during warm-ups and both Mercy College teams will be sporting pink shoelaces. Games will also be played with commemorative pink and white striped basketballs that will be autographed by the teams and raffled off. Mercy College's Athletics staff will be wearing pink and fans are encouraged to do the same to receive free admission to both ends of the doubleheader with a $2 donation to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
Breast cancer survivors in attendance will be honored on the court at halftime of the women's basketball game. Raffles and numerous giveaways will take place throughout the doubleheader.
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is spearheading the effort to raise funds and receive donations for prizes to be raffled off. Raffle tickets can be purchased from team members and coaches around campus and in the community until game time. Winning raffle recipients will be contacted if not in attendance at the doubleheader. All proceeds will benefit the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
If you would like to participate or donate to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund please contact Drew Brown at 914-674-7281 or by e-mail at: dbrown@mercy.edu.
