Mavericks Run Past Clippers 103-76 in ECC Women's Basketball

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College women's basketball team had five players reach double figures as the Mavericks defeated East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent Concordia 103-76 on Wednesday.

Sophomore forward Ashley Finnegan (Worcester, MA) led all scorers with 19 points and added nine boards. Senior guard Christina Baxter (Greenwood Lake, NY) recorded a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 12 assists. Sophomore forward Delmara Reece (Yonkers, NY) scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Ashley Borofsky (Southington, CT) contributed with 10 points, while sophomore center Courtney Cochran (Wilmington, DE) notched two career-highs with 11 points and six rebounds.

The Mavericks (5-11, 2-5 ECC) began the contest with a 15-4 run capped off with a lay up by Reece. The Blue & White continued to pour it on as Borofsky hit her first of three trifectas on the game to put Mercy up 38-13 with 10:47 remaining on the clock.

Baxter kept the offense clicking with a jumper from 15 feet out to give Mercy a 27 point lead (46-19) with 5:35 remaining. The Clippers (2-13, 0-7 ECC) trimmed the deficit to 25 points (59-34) at the half.

The Mavericks shot 57.8 percent in the first half and remained hot in the second half. Borofsky completed a four-point play to give the Blue & White a 30 point lead (67-37) with 18:25 remaining in the second half.

Concordia cut the lead to 25 after a jumper by Gina Amato, but the Clippers could get no closer as the Mavericks ran away with the victory.

Kasey Grisanti led the Clippers with 14 points. Kayla Koch had 13 points and four rebounds.

The Mavericks will be back in action when they travel to play Bridgeport on Saturday, January 24 at 1 p.m.
