Mercy's Delmara Reece Claims Third ECC Rookie of the Week Honor
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College freshman women's basketball player Delmara Reece (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) earned her third East Coast Conference (ECC) Baden Rookie of the Week award this year, the league announced on Monday.
Reece, a 5-foot-10 forward, averaged 16 points and 13 rebounds per game in a 0-2 week for the Mavericks. She notched a career and game-high 23 points (10-21 FG) and grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds (8 offensive) against Newberry for her seventh double-double of the season on Saturday. Reece narrowly missed another double-double at Division I North Carolina Central, scoring nine points, pulling in eight boards, and adding three steals.
Reece has taken over the team scoring lead for the season, averaging 13.5 points per game to go with a team and league leading 12.5 rebounds per game. As of the last NCAA Division II statistical report (Dec. 16), she ranked third in the nation in rebounding. Her 23 rebounds versus Concordia on December 8th is the second-highest single game total among NCAA Division II players this season.
The Mavericks will return to action on Saturday, January 5, when they resume ECC play at home versus Adelphi beginning at 1:00 p.m.
