Delmara Reece Earns Second Straight ECC Rookie of the Week; Named to PrestoSports/MBWA Weekly Honor Roll
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College freshman women's basketball player Delmara Reece (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) claimed her second straight East Coast Conference (ECC) Baden Rookie of the Week award and was also named to the PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Weekly Honor Roll for her performance in the Mavericks' two game last week.
A 5-foot-10 forward, Reece posted two more double-doubles, stretching her streak to five straight and giving her six through the first nine games of her collegiate career. For the week, she averaged 13.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, shooting 55 percent from the field.
On Wednesday at NYIT, Reece netted 17 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, adding a block and a steal. She followed up with 10 points, tied another game-high with 15 boards and picked up another block and two more steals at Felician on Saturday. For the year Reece is averaging 13.0 points and 12.4 rebounds.
The Mavericks are off until they travel south to take on Newberry on December 29, and Division I program North Carolina Central on December 30.
