Mercy College Women's Basketball Signs Teammates Simone Williams and Marquesha Moore for 2008-09
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Mercy College Head Women's Basketball Coach Ashlee Kelly announced that Simone Williams (Clinton, MD) and Marquesha Moore (Bryans Road, MD), teammates at Henry E. Lackey High School in Maryland, have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the College and join the Mavericks beginning with the 2008-09 season.
"Simone and Marquesha are the type of student-athletes that we are looking to bring into this program," said Kelly. "They are strong academically and athletically, and will be great additions to our returning squad."
Williams is a 5-foot-6 point guard that earned three varsity letters for Coach Cole. During her career she has averaged 14.3 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals, and 2.1 rebounds per game. After earning All-County Second Team honors in 2005-06, Williams followed up with an All-County First Team selection in 2006-07. She was also named her squad's Most Outstanding Offensive Player from 2005-07. Williams has also been named to the Principal's Honor Roll three straight years and was a Minds in Motion Scholar Athlete.
A 5-foot-8 forward, Moore has averaged 10.8 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, and 2.7 steals per game, also earning three varsity letters for Coach Cole. She is a two-time All-County Second Team selection, and has earned a pair of team Defensive Player of the Year awards and one Outstanding Rebounder of the Year award. Moore also earned a varsity letter with the track and field program, taking fifth place in the 4x100 at the 3A state championships and seventh place in the 400m at the county championships. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and has been named to the Principal's Honor Roll.
