Mercy College Women's Basketball Lands Five More Recruits for 2007-08

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Mercy College Head Women's Basketball Coach Ashlee Kelly announced that Ashley Borofsky (Southington, CT), Sasha Bowen (Boston, MA), Tracey Garnett (Ladyville, Belize), Aimee LeVine (Queens, NY), and Crasheena Ward (Danbury, CT) have all committed to attend the College and join the Mavericks beginning with the 2007-08 season.  They join fraternal twin sisters Aida and Adeline Kranzburg (Winston-Salem, NC), and Ashley Finnegan (Worcester, MA) to bring this year's recruiting class up to eight newcomers.

"I'm very excited about this recruiting class," said Kelly. "They are all very athletic and skilled players. They are also strong in the classroom and that is what we're looking for in a complete student-athlete."

Borofsky is a 5-foot-9 guard/forward out of Southington High School (CT) where she scored 1,203 career points on her way to three All-Conference First Team selections and a pair of selections as All-State Honorable Mention. She was a three-sport athlete, earning four varsity letters in basketball, and two each with the girls soccer and track and field programs.  Borofsky played with the Connecticut Spirit AAU from 2003-2006, helping her squad to a national ranking as high as No. 9. She was also an honor roll student and was selected as the Southington High School Scholar Athlete in 2006 for track and field, and again in 2007 for basketball.

"Ashley is a very talented player with the ability to score inside and out," said Kelly.  "She has great strength and knows how to use that to her advantage."

A 5-foot-9 guard from Monroe College, Garnett was a four-time team Most Valuable Player at Wesley High School (Belize), helping her squad to four championships. She averaged 15.6 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and four steals per contest. She was named Rookie of the Year in 2007 at Monroe College, chipping in 6.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and three assists per game as her team put together a 30-3 record. Garnett graduated with honors from Monroe, earning an associate degree in criminal justice.

"Tracey comes to us from a very well established junior college program," said Kelly.  "She knows how to win and will bring that with her to Mercy College.  She is very quick with and without the ball, and she makes things happen."

Levine, a 5-foot-8 forward out of Christ the King (NY), played four years, earning her team's Versatile Player Award as a senior and served as a team captain.  She averaged nine points per game, six rebounds per game, and five assists per game. Levine played her AAU ball with the Liberty Belles and also participated in cross country for one year at Christ the King.

"Aimee comes from an excellent basketball program at Christ the King High School and understands what needs to be done to be successful," said Kelly.  "She is extremely skilled and runs the court very well."

A 5-foot-5 guard, Bowen will transfer from St. Joseph's College in Maine where she played for two years.  She led her squad in free throw percentage, earned a player of the week honor, and was named Most Valuable Player of the St. Joseph's Tournament during her time.  Prior to St. Joseph's, Bowen played her scholastic basketball at Boston Latin Academy (MA), where she averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, and five assists. She was an All-Star selection during her senior year and also served as a team captain.

"Sasha has great court vision and has the ability to get her teammates the ball in any situation," said Kelly. She will be a great addition to our program."

Ward is a 5-foot-8 forward from Danbury High School (CT) where she participated in three sports.  On the basketball court she averaged 10.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. After earning All-FCIAC Honorable Mention in 2005, Ward followed up with an All-FCIAC Second-Team selection in 2006. She also earned the Sportsmanship Award for three consecutive years.  Ward was a weak-side hitter with the volleyball squad, garnering All-FCIAC Second Team honors in 2006, and competed in throws and events with the track and field team, earning All-FCIAC and All-State accolades. She will also compete with the Mercy College volleyball squad this fall.

"Crasheena is capable of battling bigger girls down low or running the floor," said Kelly. "She is such a hard worker and will give everything she has to her team."
