Mercy's Christina Baxter and Delmara Reece Named to ECC Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College junior guard Christina Baxter (Greenwood Lake, NY) was named to the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Basketball All-Conference Second Team and freshman forward Delmara Reece (Yonkers, NY) was named to the Third team. The league announced its award winners on Wednesday.
Baxter led the team in scoring this season with 15.7 points per game and assists with 5.5 per game. She also led the team in steals (51) and free throws made. In the conference she was 7th in scoring, 2nd in assists, 10th in steals and 8th in assist/turnover ratio.
Baxter had her best game of the season against Adelphi with a career-high 30 points on 11-of-21 shooting. In the final game of the season against C.W. Post she netted 25 points on 10-of-18 from the field. She also registered 22 points with eight assists against New Haven and 22 points with 9-of-10 from the charity stripe against Dowling.
Baxter reached the 1,000 points scored milestone against St. Thomas Aquinas College and is now ranked 15th on the Mavericks' all-time list with 1,045. She is also 7th all-time in assists with 369.
This season Baxter was named to the PrestoSports/MBWA Honor Roll three times and earned a spot on the ECC Third Team last season.
Reece averaged a double-double in her first collegiate season. She scored 13.0 points per game and snatched 12.3 rebounds per game. She also led the team in blocks with 35. Reece leads the conference in rebounding and ranks fourth in the nation. She is also third in blocks among all ECC players, and 11th in scoring.
The Saunders High School graduate notched 14 double-doubles with one of her most dominant performances coming against Newberry when she scored 23 points and pulled down 18 rebounds. She had two strong games against Concordia with 19 points and 23 rebounds in the first meeting and 19 points and 24 rebounds in the second.
Reece was named ECC Rookie of the Week five times and earned a spot on the PrestoSports/MBWA Honor Roll three times.
The Mavericks finished the year at 6-21 overall and improved their ECC record by one win, closing out at 6-14.
