Mercy's Delmara Reece Racks Up Fifth ECC Rookie of the Week Honor and Third PrestoSports/MBWA Weekly Honor Roll Spot
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College freshman women's basketball player Delmara Reece (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) picked up her fifth East Coast Conference (ECC) Baden Rookie of the Week award this season, sharing the award with Amanda Bartlett of Queens. She was also named to the PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this year.
Reece, a 5-foot-10 forward, posted her ninth and tenth double-doubles of the season in leading the Mavericks to a pair of ECC victories last week. In Tuesday's 68-56 win over St. Thomas Aquinas, she netted 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. Reece followed up with 18 points and 15 boards to help Mercy pick off C.W. Post in overtime on Saturday, 69-66. For the week she averaged 17.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks.
Reece leads the ECC in rebounding at 13.1 per game and ranked third in the nation as of the last NCAA statistical report. Her 13.8 points per game also leads the squad and ranks ninth in the league. Reece's 23 rebound performance versus Concordia on December 8 is tied for the fourth-highest single game total this season.
The Mavericks (5-10, 5-4 ECC) have won three of their last four outings to move into a three-way tie for fifth place in the league standings, and are perfect at home with a 5-0 record. Mercy will host Bridgeport on Wednesday, January 23, at The Masters School, and take on Queens on Saturday, January 26, at Dobbs Ferry High School.
