Mercy's Delmara Reece Earns Fourth ECC Rookie of the Week Honor; Also Named to PrestoSports/MBWA Weekly Honor Roll
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College freshman women's basketball player Delmara Reece (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) claimed her second straight East Coast Conference (ECC) Baden Rookie of the Week award and fourth of the year, the league announced on Monday. She was also named to the PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Weekly Honor Roll for the second time.
A 5-foot-10 forward, Reece registered her eighth double-double of the season on Saturday, helping Mercy to its first win over Adelphi since the 1996-97 season, 67-59. She tied for a game-high with 16 points and also pulled in a game-high 14 rebounds. Reece hit 6-of-12 from the field and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line. She added three steals, two blocks and one assist.
On the season, Reece leads Mercy in scoring and ranks seventh in the league at 13.8 points per game, hitting 45.5 percent from the field, and also leads the ECC in rebounding at 12.7 rebounds per game. As of the last NCAA statistical report, she ranked third among all Division II players in rebounding and her 23 boards versus Concordia on December 8 is tied for the second-highest single game total this season.
The Mavericks (3-9, 3-3), currently in fifth place in the league standings, will travel to Molloy on Wednesday, January 9, for another ECC contest beginning at 6:00 p.m.
