American International Tops Mercy Women's Basketball 82-50

        SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Mercy College women's basketball team dropped an 82-50 decision at the hands of No. 21 American International College (AIC) in a non-conference game, on Saturday, December 16.  Mercy is now 2-6 on the year, while AIC improved to 9-3.

          Mercy junior guard Jasmine Sistrunk (Brooklyn, NY) finished the game with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard Christina Baxter (Greenwood Lake, NY) scored a team-high 17 points.  AIC's Alexis Castro scored a game-high 21 points.  Two other Yellow Jackets finished the game in double digits, Jen Moussette (16) and Lexanna Dickerson (15).

         The game's first seven minutes was a see-saw battle.  Junior guard Precious Tyler (Brooklyn, NY) began the contest by converting a layup.  Dickerson answered for AIC to tie the game at 2-2. 

          A three-pointer from Kristin Boesenberg gave AIC an 18-11 advantage with 12:24 to go in the first half.  The Yellow Jackets stretched their advantage to 14 at 30-16 on a layup from Mirlande Francois.  Mercy was able to cut the lead to nine, on a Tyler layup with less than a minute left in the half.  However, Dickerson nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer, putting the Yellow Jackets up 36-24 going into the locker room.  

            The Yellow Jackets stretched their lead to 55-26, in the first five minutes second half going on a 17-2 run.  Baxter stopped the run by nailing a three-pointer.  AIC's Castro answered with her own three point field goal.  At the 4:56 mark AIC's lead grew to as many as 38 points, 72-34, putting away the Flyers in the final minutes 82-50.

           Baxter went 7-of-12 from the field and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe.  Sistrunk grabbed eight offensive rebounds and she was 3-of-4 from the foul line.

           The Flyers' next game will be Sunday, January 7, at Briarcliffe.  Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
