Molloy Defeats Mercy College Women's Basketball 72-48

          WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - The Mercy College women's basketball team fell by a score of 72-48 to Molloy, on Thursday, January 11, at the Westchester County Center.  Mercy's record is now 4-7 overall and 2-4 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while the Lady Lions improved to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

         Mercy started out the first half cold from the field to find themselves down 25-9 at the 8:35 mark.  The Flyers fought back, trimming the lead to six points (37-31) on sophomore guard Christina Baxter's (Greenwood Lake, NY) jumper with just 0:43 seconds left in the first half.  Molloy finished off the frame by scoring three more points, on a foul shot and layup, going into the locker room up 40-31.

         Mercy kept it under ten points for the first few minutes for the second half on buckets by sophomore guard Tannyka Bent (Queens, NY) and freshman forward Samantha DeVore (Norwich, CT), before Molloy went on another run.  The Lady Lions led by as many as 26 points and won by a final margin of 24 (72-48).

          Baxter led Mercy in scoring and rebounding with 14 points and six boards.  Jazmin Steele (Stoughton, MA), a sophomore guard, also grabbed six rebounds along with nine points for the Flyers.  Devore went 4-for-11 from the field to knock down 12 points for Mercy and added three blocks in the contest.  Molloy's Clarissa Jones went 8-for-11 from the field to lead all scorers with 17 points.  Kymira Woodberry recorded a double-double for the Lady Lions with 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.  Molloy out-rebounded Mercy 52-30.

          The Flyers will play host to the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday, January 17, at 5:00 p.m.  The contest will be played at the Westchester County Center on "Scout Night".  All Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Brownies in uniform, and their families will receive free admission to the doubleheader.
