Adelphi Downs Mercy Volleyball, 3-0
GARDEN CITY, NY - The Mercy College women's
volleyball team dropped an East Coast Conference (ECC) match to
Adelphi on Tuesday by a score of 3-0.
Sophomore middle hitter Mirlusca Montes
(Lima,
Peru) notched six kills on 16
attempts and 10 digs. Junior outside hitter Diana Bruzzone
(Guayaquil,
Ecuador) recorded 22 digs, while
sophomore middle hitter Shedeiky Hamilton
(Yallahs,
Jamaica) added 13 digs. Freshman
setter Bridgette Pennelle
(Hawthorne,
NY) totaled 12 assists.
In the first set the Mavericks (4-9, 0-4 ECC) trailed early,
13-4, but fought back to cut the deficit to 18-9. The Panthers
(11-4, 3-1 ECC), however, took control of the set with a 25-14 win.
The second set was knotted at 11, but a kill by Hilary Pavels gave
the Panthers some breathing room as Adelphi prevailed 25-21. The
Mavericks dropped the final set 25-11.
Kathleen Carney had 15 kills on 32 attempts (.406 attack
percentage) for the Panthers.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Thursday when they play
host to Concordia at 7:00 p.m.
