Mercy Volleyball Triumphs Over Dominican, 3-1

ORANGEBURG, NY - After dropping the first set
(25-20), the Mercy College volleyball team roared back on Thursday
to defeat Dominican College in a non-conference match by a score of
3-1.
The Mavericks (4-8) got stellar performances from several
student-athletes. Sophomore middle hitter Shedeiky Hamilton
(Yallahs, Jamaica) led the way with 16 kills on 33
attempts for a solid hitting percentage of .420. Junior outside
hitter Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil,
Ecuador) notched 13 kills, 13 digs and four service aces.
Freshman setter Bridgette Pennelle (Hawthorne, NY)
recorded 34 assists, 10 digs and three service aces.
The Chargers (0-7) came out strong to take the first set, but the
Mavericks were firing on all cylinders for the rest of the match.
Mercy took the next three sets in dominating fashion and by the
same score, 25-13.
Senior Ashley Simpson notched nine kills for the Chargers.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Tuesday, September 23 when
they travel to play East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent Adelphi.
