Mercy Volleyball Falls to Southern Connecticut State

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Mercy College women's volleyball team was defeated by Southern Connecticut State on Thursday by a score of 3-0.

The Mavericks (2-3) dropped the first set 25-11, but challenged the Owls in the second set with aggressive play. Mercy had eight kills, but it was not enough as the Mavericks dropped the set 26-24.

The Owls (5-1) remained consistent taking the third set 25-18. Southern Connecticut State had a .407 attack percentage in the first set and .187 for the match.

Junior outside hitter Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) had 11 digs and six kills. Senior setter Trevene Smith (Montego Bay, Jamaica) notched 11 assists. Sophomore middle hitter Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) added seven kills.

Jenna Tammel had 14 kills on 34 attempts for the Owls.

The Mavericks will be back in action on Saturday, September 6, when Bloomfield comes to the Dobbs Ferry Gymnasium for a 1:00 p.m. match.
