Mercy Volleyball Splits Tri-Match; Beats Felician and Falls to Holy Family
PHILADELPHIA, PA
- The Mercy College women's volleyball team split
a tri-match on Saturday by defeating Felician by a score of 3-0,
but dropped the finale to Holy Family by a score of 3-0.
In the opener against Felician (2-15), the Mavericks (6-12) came
out aggressive and notched 15 kills to take the first set 25-20.
Mercy didn't let up and played solid defense throughout the match,
limiting Felician to a .074 hitting percentage. The Mavericks took
the final two sets by a score of 25-16 and 25-16.
Freshman middle hitter Crasheena Ward
(Danbury,
CT) led the attack with 13 kills
on 25 attempts for a .440 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter
Diana Bruzzone
(Guayaquil,
Ecuador) recorded 13 kills and 12
digs. Freshman setter Bridgette Pennelle
(Hawthorne,
NY) added 30 assists.
In the second match against Holy Family (12-10), the Mavericks
fought hard against their host. However, Holy Family took all three
sets (25-16, 25-15, 25-16) on the strength of eight service aces in
the match and 10 kills by Katie Hornback.
Sophomore middle hitter Shedeiky Hamilton
(Yallahs,
Jamaica) had eight kills on 19
attempts. Bruzzone contributed with 14 digs, while sophomore middle
hitter Mirlusca Montes
(Lima,
Peru) added 10 digs.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Tuesday, October 7 when
they return home to take on East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent
Molloy.
