OLD WESTBURY, NY - The Mercy College women's volleyball team had three student-athletes reach double digits in kills, but it wasn't enough as NYIT defeated Mercy in an East Coast Conference (ECC) match on Thursday by a score of 3-1.

Sophomore middle hitter Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) had 14 kills on 30 attempts for the Mavericks. Junior outside hitter Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) recorded 10 kills and 18 digs, while junior middle hitter Sasha Atkins (Bronx, NY) added 10 kills. Freshman setter Bridgette Pennelle (Hawthorne, NY) collected 34 assists and 10 digs. Freshman middle hitter Crasheena Ward (Danbury, CT) led the Mavericks with 19 digs.

The Bears (5-14, 4-3 ECC) came out firing with a .364 attack percentage to take the first set 25-16. Mercy (5-11, 1-6 ECC) responded with a 25-21 win in set two. Both teams battled one another in the final two sets, but the Bears came out on top in both, 25-20 and 26-24.

Emily Seyers was the catalyst for NYIT as she collected 42 assists.

The Mavericks will be back in action on Saturday when they take part in a tri-match featuring Felician and the host-team Holy Family.
