Mavericks Drop ECC Match to NYIT
OLD WESTBURY,
NY - The Mercy College women's
volleyball team had three student-athletes reach double digits in
kills, but it wasn't enough as NYIT defeated Mercy in an East Coast
Conference (ECC) match on Thursday by a score of 3-1.
Sophomore middle hitter Shedeiky Hamilton
(Yallahs,
Jamaica) had 14 kills on 30
attempts for the Mavericks. Junior outside hitter Diana
Bruzzone (Guayaquil,
Ecuador) recorded 10 kills and 18
digs, while junior middle hitter Sasha Atkins
(Bronx,
NY) added 10 kills. Freshman
setter Bridgette Pennelle
(Hawthorne,
NY) collected 34 assists and 10
digs. Freshman middle hitter Crasheena Ward
(Danbury,
CT) led the Mavericks with 19
digs.
The Bears (5-14, 4-3 ECC) came out firing with a .364 attack
percentage to take the first set 25-16. Mercy (5-11, 1-6 ECC)
responded with a 25-21 win in set two. Both teams battled one
another in the final two sets, but the Bears came out on top in
both, 25-20 and 26-24.
Emily Seyers was the catalyst for NYIT as she collected 42
assists.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Saturday when they take
part in a tri-match featuring Felician and the host-team Holy
Family.
