Mercy College Volleyball Battles in 3-1 Defeat to Adelphi
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College women's volleyball team fell by a score of 3-1 to visiting Adelphi on Tuesday. The Mavericks are now 9-16 overall and 1-7 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while the Panthers improved to 24-5 overall and 7-2 in the league.
After Adelphi took the first two games 30-17 and 30-19, the Mavericks bounced back to win game three 30-24. Adelphi jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the fourth game, but Mercy chipped away to go ahead 17-16. The game saw seven ties from there before the Panthers finally pulled away to take the final three points and a 30-26 decision.
Senior Mariola St. Fleur (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) led all players with 15 kills and seven block assists in the final home match of her career for Mercy. Freshman Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) added 10 kills and four service aces. Sophomore Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) chipped in eight kills and a team-high 21 digs. Senior Natalee Carty (Kingston, Jamaica) posted six kills and 17 digs, and senior Rose Harper (Croton, NY) picked up five digs.
Samantha Johnston led Adelphi with 12 kills, while Lauren Flanagan added 11, and Kelsey Hackett posted 10 kills, making only one error in 13 attempts. Brittany Addeo put up a match-high 47 assists for the Panthers.
The Mavericks will close out the 2007 regular season on Thursday, November 1, at C.W. Post beginning at 7:00 p.m.
