Mercy Tops Pace in Five at Queens Volleyball Tournament

FLUSHING, NY - For the second time this year, the Mercy College women's volleyball team defeated Pace University 3-2, this time at the Queens College Tournament, on Saturday. The Mavericks are now 7-14 on the season.

Pace took the first game by a score of 30-26, but Mercy bounced back with a 30-20 decision in game two, and won game three, 30-22.  The Setters evened the contest with a 30-25 decision in the fourth game, but the Mavericks notched the victory with a 17-15 edge in the fifth and final frame.

Senior Mariola St. Fleur (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) and sophomore Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) each registered 20 kills in the contest for Mercy. Senior Natalee Carty (Kingston Jamaica) added 19 kills, and freshman Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) chipped in nine kills. Junior Trevene Smith (Montego Bay, Jamaica) put up 53 assists.

The Mavericks will return to action on Monday, October 15, when they host Concordia at the Mercy College Gym, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
