Mercy College Volleyball Falls 3-1 at NYIT
OLD WESTBURY, NY - The Mercy College women's volleyball team fell by a score of 3-1 to host NYIT on Thursday. The Mavericks are now 5-10 overall and 0-4 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while NYIT upped its record to 5-10 overall and 2-1 in the ECC.
NYIT took the first two games by scores of 30-22 and 30-16. Mercy bounced back with a 30-28 decision in game three, but the Bears put it away, 30-20, in the fourth frame.
Senior Mariola St. Fleur (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) posted a match-high 17 kills for Mercy and added 14 digs. Sophomore Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) chipped in 11 kills and 15 digs for the Mavericks, and junior Trevene Smith (Montego Bay, Jamaica) put up 39 assists.
Four Bears posted double-digit kills, led by Dena McKinney with 12. Zeynep Isik, Daria Skrypka, and Shelby Klein, registered 11 kills each.
Mercy will be back in action again on Monday, October 8, at Bloomfield in a non-conference match that will begin at 7:00 p.m.
