Mavericks Fall to New Haven in ECC Volleyball Opener, 3-0
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting New Haven in both teams' East Coast Conference (ECC) opener at the Mercy College Gymnasium on Tuesday. The Mavericks fell to 5-7 overall, and 0-1 in ECC play, while the Chargers improved to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the league.
Mercy built leads in all three games, but New Haven rallied from behind to win each, 30-28, 30-27, and 30-28.
Sophomore Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) led the Mavericks with 12 kills and 19 digs. Senior Mariola St. Fleur (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) collected eight kills and eight digs. Freshman Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) posted six kills and only one error in 12 attempts, while registering four service aces.
New Haven was led by Anicia Wood's 12 kills, and Hannah Meier added eights kills. Yael Rosner registered 34 assists and eight digs for the Chargers.
Mercy returns to action on Thursday, September 27, at home versus ECC opponent Bridgeport, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
