Mercy College Volleyball Takes Pace in Five for Third Straight Win
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Mercy College women's volleyball team won its third straight match, defeating host Pace 3-2 on Thursday, September 6. The Mavericks are now 3-1 on the year, while Pace is 0-1.
Mercy took the first two games by scores of 30-26, and 30-28, before the Setters rallied back to tie the match with a 30-16 decision in game three and a 31-29 edge in game four. Pace jumped out to an early lead in the fifth and deciding game, but the Mavericks came from behind in exciting fashion for a 19-17 triumph.
Senior Mariola St. Fleur (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) led Mercy with 14 kills and added 21 digs. Freshman Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) added 13 kills to go with her two block solos and five block assists. Sophomore Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and senior Natalee Carty (Kingston, Jamaica) each chipped in nine kills, while Bruzzone picked up 29 digs and Carty added 20 digs. Junior Trevene Smith (Montego Bay, Jamaica) posted 40 assists. Sophomore Mirlusca Montes (Lima, Peru) led all Mavericks with 35 digs.
Mercy College will return to action on Saturday, September 8, at Philadelphia University.
