Mercy College Volleyball Falls in Opener at Assumption, 3-1
WORCESTER, MA - The Mercy College women's volleyball team fell to tournament host Assumption by a score of 3-1 in the 2007 opener for both programs. After Assumption took the first game 30-23, the Mavericks battled in game two before falling 32-30. Mercy bounced back by taking the third game, 30-26, but the Greyhounds closed it out in game four, 30-27.
Senior Mariola St. Fleur (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) posted 13 kills and 10 blocks for Mercy, while sophomore Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) registered 14 kills and 29 digs. Senior Natalee Carty (Kingston, Jamaica) picked up a team-high 32 digs and sophomore Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) added six blocks. Junior Trevene Smith (Montego Bay, Jamaica) put up 33 assists.
The Mavericks will return to action at the Assumption Tournament on Saturday, September 1, with matches versus Felician and Saint Michael's at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
