Dowling Takes Mercy in ECC Volleyball, 3-0
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-13, 30-27, 30-12) decision at the hands of visiting Dowling College on Thursday, October 26. The host Flyers are now 3-18 overall, and 0-9 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play. Dowling improved to 28-6 overall, and 9-0 in league action.
Freshman outside hitter Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) led the Flyers with nine kills and added nine digs. Senior Natalee Carty (Kingston, Jamaica) added seven kills and a pair of digs. Senior Mariola St. Fleur (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) registered six kills and a team-high 11 digs.
Three players recorded double-digit kills for Dowling, led by senior Marta Slodnik's (Gdynia, Pland) double-double of 12 kills and 16 digs. Senior Nikki Armstrong (Knoxville, TN) knocked down a match-high 16 kills, making only one error in 23 attempts. Senior Danielle Hinz (Toledo, OH) registered 10 kills, and sophomore Rachel Zulick (Albequerque, NM) posted a match-high 42 assists.
The Flyers return to action on Saturday, October 28, when they host Bloomfield in their 2006 season finale, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Mercy will honor its seniors in a pre-match ceremony.
