Mercy Volleyball Takes Two in Non-Conference Play
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Mercy College women's volleyball team swept a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, defeating host Holy Family 3-2, and Nyack 3-1. Mercy improved its overall record to 3-12 on the year.
Against Holy Family, the Flyers took the first game 30-24, and then lost 18-30 in game two. They bounced back with a 30-28 win in game three, but dropped a 23-30 decision in game four before taking the deciding game, 15-12.
Senior Natalee Carty (Kingston, Jamaica) led the Mercy attack with 20 kills and picked up 22 digs. Freshman Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) posted 15 kills and a match-high 33 digs. Senior Mariola St. Fleur (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) recorded 15 kills and picked up 18 digs. Senior setter Melissa Baccari (Rego Park, NY) registered 48 assists and 19 digs.
Mercy took the first two games versus Nyack, 30-20 and 30-15. After falling 23-30, in the third game, the Flyers closed it out with a 30-24 win.
Bruzzone paced Mercy with 17 kills in the match, while St. Fleur recorded 23 digs and three blocks.
Mercy will return to conference play on Tuesday, October 10, at Bridgeport.
