Mercy Volleyball Falls in Season Opener, 3-1, at Southern Connecticut State

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Mercy College women's volleyball team fell by a score of 3-1, at the hands of host Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday evening in their season opener.  The Owls took the first two games, 30-20 and 30-26, before the Flyers stayed alive with a 30-28 decision in game three, but Southern Connecticut State sealed it with a 30-27 edge in the fourth and final game.

Senior Claudia Miller (Westmoreland, Jamaica) led the Flyers with team-highs of 16 kills and 45 digs in the match. Freshman Diana Bruzzone (Guayagil, Ecuador) also registered 11 kills and 34 digs. Senior Natalee Carty (Kingston, Jamaica) added 14 kills, and senior Mariola St. Fleur (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) chipped in 35 digs.

Mercy will return to action this weekend when they participate in a tournament hosted by Bryant University.
