Track & Field Competes At Fordham Opener, Lee Wins Long Jump

Senior Sasha Atkins finished fourth in the 200-meter dash, Joon Yeob Lee wins men's long jump.
BRONX, N.Y. -- The Mercy College Mavericks Track & Field Team was the lone Division II competitor at the annual Fordham Opener at the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse on Friday.
For the women, senior Sasha Atkins (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) was a success story on the track, finishing in the top 10 in three events at the meet. Atkins finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.0 seconds, just one second behind the double-Asia's from St. John's University (Division I), Asia Nettles and Asia Davy, and Fordham's Sherilynn Groeninger. Atkins also finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 4.97 meters (15 feet, 11.75 inches). In her third event for the Mavericks, the shot put, Atkins finished eighth with a throw of 10.09 meters (33 feet, 1.25 inches). The senior was eighth out of a field of 18 which included competition from competitive Division I opponents representing St. John's, Farleigh Dickinson, St. Peter's, Fordham, Providence and Stony Brook.
Sophomore Abigail Dillon (Bronx, N.Y./Upper Perkiomen) finished 14th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.40 seconds. She was fourth in her heat.
Highlights for the men included, Joon Yeob Lee (New Haven, Conn./Career), who won the men's long jump competition. He beat out his competition from Providence and Fordham with a distance of 6.13 meters (20 feet, 1.50 inches)
Eliezes Riquelme finished third in the 60-meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.51 seconds. Riquelme was fifth in the preliminaires with a time of 8.70 seconds, the last qualifier in the event. Riquelme also finished fourth in the men's triple jump with a distance of 11.65 meters (38 feet, 2.75 inches).
Jamsel Reyes (Haverstraw, N.Y./Alfred State) finished 10th in the mile with a time of 5:02.70.

The Mavericks track & field team returns to the Lombardi Fieldhouse on Friday, Dec. 11 to compete in the Fordham Christmas Classic. The meet begins at 3 p.m.
