Mercy College Cross Country Closes 2008 at IC4A/ECAC Championships

BRONX, NY - The Mercy College men's cross country team concluded the 2008 campaign with a 26th place finish at the 100th Annual IC4A Championships held at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday. The Mavericks were one of three NCAA Division II programs to score in the University Division race with temperatures in the mid-20s and winds gusting over 20 miles per hour.

Once again senior Peter Yarema (Northport, NY) led Mercy College with a time of 30:12 on the five-mile course. He was followed closely by senior Tom Cannariato (Goshen, NY) at 30:13 and senior John Benvin (Thornwood, NY) at 30:26. Rounding out the scorers were seniors Issiaka Sow (Bronx, NY), Kevin Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Justin Sanabria (Bronx, NY).

In the women's University Division Race of the 24th Annual ECAC Championships, senior Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) capped her stellar four-year career by traversing the 5K course in a time of 22:39. 

"I thank each one of today's competitors for their respective contributions to the College and our programs," said Head Coach Dr. Darryl Bullock. "Some of today's competitors will don the Mercy College Blue & White for a couple of early season indoor track and field events before completing their degree requirements in December." 

The indoor track and field season begins on Monday, December 1, when the Mavericks travel to Manhattan College. Start time is 2 p.m.
