Mercy Cross Country Sets Career Marks at Albany Invitational

ALBANY, NY - The Mercy College cross country teams returned to action on Saturday at the 42nd University of Albany Invitational.
Four of Mercy's five men's participants posted career best times in the five-mile Purple Race. Senior Peter Yarema (Northport, NY) led the way with a time of 27:32 to finish 29th out of 170 competitors and senior John Benvin (Thornwood, NY) crossed the line at 30:14. Seniors Issiaka Sow (Bamako, Mali) and Justin Sanabria (Bronx, NY) also established personal bests at 31:43 and 37:31, respectively. Senior Kevin Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina) finished at 33:59.
On the women's side, senior Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) was Mercy's entrant in the Bobbi DiPalma Championship Race. She finished the 3.1 mile course in a time of 21:32.
"We still have things to accomplish as a team this season and I am looking forward to our conference championships," said Head Coach Dr. Darryl Bullock. "We matched up well time-wise with some of our member conference teams that also ran today."
The Mavericks will compete again on Saturday, October 25 when they travel to Sunken Meadow State Park on Long Island for the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships.
