PRINCETON, NJ - Senior David Hunte (Labrea, Trinidad and Tobago) and junior Jamsel Reyes (Haverstraw, NY) became the first male competitors from Mercy College to advance to the prestigious IC4A Track and Field Championships, held at Princeton University over the weekend. The duo competed against student athletes from top Division I programs.
Hunte placed 25th overall in the men's triple jump with a mark of 13.83 meters. His finish was better than several Division I opponents from the likes of Temple, Liberty, Army, Fairleigh Dickinson, UConn, Villanova, and Pittsburgh. Reyes was also the only non-Division I competitor in his event, the 800 meter run. He finished 32nd overall with a time of 2:01.95.
The competition marks the end of the Mavericks' 2009 outdoor track and field campaign. "David and Jamsel gave a great effort again this weekend and their season long performances caught the attention of many onlookers who have commented about the forward direction of the program," said Head Coach Dr. Darryl Bullock.
