STATEN ISLAND, NY - Junior Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) and senior Dave Hunte (LaBrea, Trinidad & Tobago) each took home first place finishes to highlight the day for the Mercy College Track & Field teams at the Wagner College Invitational on Saturday. The event featured many NCAA Division I, II, and III programs from the area, along with top National Junior College Athletic Association institutions.
Wong took first in the women's high jump and Hunte finished in the top spot in the men's triple jump, negotiating fierce head and cross winds. Wong cleared the bar at 1.50 meters and Hunte posted a mark of 13.52 meters in his first place performance. Hunte also placed 15th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.90 seconds.

Junior Tyrik Overton (Tarrytown, NY) also finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.78 meters. Sophomore Joon Yeob Lee (New Haven, CT) took fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.03m . "The day presented some very serious physical and mental challenges, all of which should help as we get ready for the Collegiate Track Conference Championships in two weeks," Head Coach Dr. Darryl Bullock said.
The Mavericks will travel to Icahn Stadium to compete at the New York Relays on Friday, April 10th.
