Mavericks Collect Six Top Tens at CTC Indoor Track

MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Mercy College track and field teams recorded six top 10 finishes at the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Indoor Championships on Saturday. The men finished 16th as a team, while the women tied for 18th.
Senior David Hunte (Labrea, Trinidad and Tobago) led the way, finishing second in the men's triple jump with a mark of 13.67 meters. Junior Tyrik Overton (Tarrytown, NY) and sophomore Joon Yeob Lee (New Haven, CT) gave the Mavericks a pair of eighth place finishes. Overton notched his in the high jump at 1.77 meters and Lee posted his in the long jump at 6.21 meters. The men's 4x800 meter relay squad of senior John Benvin (Thornwood, NY), senior Jose Gomez (Monroe, NY), senior Daniel Reeves (Babylon, NY), and junior Jamsel Reyes (Monroe, NY) placed 10th with a time of 9:17.72.

Junior Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) posted an eighth place finish in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.43 meters. Senior Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) added one more top-10, posting a time of 2:36.76 to finish ninth in the 800-meter run.
In the men's 800-meter run, Reyes placed 11th at 2:04.92 and Benvin finished 26th at 2:24.36. Junior Craig Williams (Bronx, NY) posted a 15th place finish in the 200-meter dash at 24.56 seconds and sophomore Joon Hoon Lee (New Haven, CT) placed 17th in the 400-meter dash at 57.65 seconds. Rounding out the action for the Mavericks was Reeves in 27th with a time of 5:25.98 in the mile and Gomez in 23rd with a time of 11:39.02 in the 3000-meter run.
The Mavericks will return to action on Friday, February 27, when they compete in the NYU Fast Track Meet at the New Balance Track & Field Center.
