Mavericks Compete at USATF Metropolitan Championships

YORK, NY
- The Mercy College indoor track & field team
collected six top five finishes while competing at the USATF
Metropolitan Championships on Sunday.
Junior Janet Wong
(Vancouver,
Canada) won the gold medal - the
first in Mercy College history - in the women's high jump with a
mark of 1.45m. Wong also placed third in the open shot with a throw
of 7.70m. In the 800m run senior Katelyn Klobus (Averill
Park, NY) took a fifth place finish with a time of
2:35.42.
Senior David Hunte
(Labrea,
Trinidad and Tobago) paced the
men with a second place finish in the triple jump and then placed
fourth in the long jump.
In the men's 800m run, junior Jamsel Reyes
(Monroe,
NY) finished in fourth place with
a time of 2:00.19, which is good for second fastest all-time in
Mercy College indoor track & field. Senior Daniel
Reeves (Babylon,
NY) clocked in with his best time
of the year at 2:15.08, while seniors Kevin Gibson
(Buenos Aires,
Argentina) and John
Benvin (Thornwood,
NY) came in closely behind with
times of 2:27.41 and 2:32.55, respectively.
Benvin, Gibson, Reeves and Reyes earned a sixth place finish in
the 4x400 relay. Benvin placed 11th in the 1500m run (4:50) and
senior Jose Gomez (Monroe, NY)
came in at 17th. Junior Craig Williams
(Bronx,
NY) finished the 60m dash in 7.44
and the 200m dash in 24.60.
The Mavericks will begin the outdoor season Saturday, March 14 at
the Queensborough Relays.
