Mercy Women's Cross Country Sets Personal Bests, Men Finish 19th at NCAA Division II Regionals

BRONX, NY - The Mercy College men's and women's cross country teams took part in the NCAA Division II Regionals held at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday.  The men's squad finished 19th as a team, while three Maverick women ran personal bests.

Junior Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) finished the 6k course in a personal best time of 25:59.1 to finish 55th out of 128 competitors and break her previous mark of 26:23.  Sophomore Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) and senior Natalya Wells also posted their best times for that distance at 33:36.0, and 33:42.3, respectively.

In the men's 10k race less than two minutes separated all five runners with senior Tom Cannariato (Goshen, NY) leading the Mavericks in a time of 40:23.6, finishing just ahead of senior Peter Yarema (Northport, NY) at 40:23.8. Junior Jose Gomez (Monroe, NY) was next at 41:27.4, followed by junior Kevin Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina) at 41:47.2, and senior Dan Reeves (Babylon, NY) at 42:17.3.

Mercy will conclude the cross country season with the ECAC/IC4A Championships on November 17, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
