Klobus and Yarema Pace Mercy Cross Country Teams at the Albany Invitational
ALBANY, NY - The Mercy College cross country teams were in action on Saturday, competing in the 41st Annual University of Albany Invitational. The men finished 25th in a field full of Division I programs. The women did not compete for a team score, but had four individuals participate.
Senior Peter Yarema (Northport, NY) was Mercy's top finisher in the men's 8000 meter race, finishing with career personal best time of 28:34. Senior Tom Cannariato (Goshen, NY) finished the course in 30:33.3. They were followed by junior Jose Gomez (Monroe, NY) at 32:14.1, junior Kevin Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina) at 32:42, and senior Daniel Reeves (Babylon, NY) at 33:31.
In the women's 5000 meter championship race, junior Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) led the Mavericks with her season-best time of 20:46.9. Sophomore Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) was Mercy's next finisher at 25:42.3, followed by senior Natalya Wells at 29:57.7, and junior Susan Paulsen (Goshen, NY) at 35:28.2.
The Mavericks will be back in action again on Sunday, October 21, when they compete in the East Coast Conference Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
