Yarema and Klobus Lead Mercy College Cross Country at CT College Invitational
WATERFORD, CT - Senior Pater Yarema (Northport, NY) and junior Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) led the Mercy College Cross Country teams at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday. The day's event featured a number of nationally-ranked Division II and III powers.
Yarema paced the Mavericks on the men's side, turning in a season-best time of 29:43 on the 8k course to finish 145th out of 215 competitors. Senior Dan Reeves (Babylon, NY) finished at 31:56, followed by junior Jose Gomez (Monroe, NY) at 32:52, and junior Kevin Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina) at 33:07.
The women's squad had two Mavericks in the 6k event with Klobus finishing 76th out of 172 competitors. Her time of 26:03 kept pace with some the East Coast Conference (ECC) elite who were also competing. Sophomore Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) ran the course in 33:28.
The Mavericks will have a quick turnaround with their next event coming on Friday, September 28, at Lehigh University where some of the nation's top NCAA Division I, II, and III programs will compete in the prestigious Paul Short Invitational.
