Eric Duffy and Joon Yeob Lee Add to Records at New Balance NYC Event
NEW YORK, NY - Senior Eric Duffy (Montrose, NY) and freshman Joon Yeob Lee (New Haven, CT) each improved on school records as the Mercy College outdoor track and field teams closed out the 2008 regular season at the New Balance NYC Qualifying Challenge on Saturday.
Duffy upped his record mark set in the javelin last week when he recorded a throw of 43.07 meters to finish 14th overall. Lee added to his long jump record with a leap of 6.42 meters as he placed ninth overall.
In women's competition, junior Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) finished 22nd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:31.86, and 13th in the 1500 meter run at 5:31.51. Sophomore Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) also turned in a seventh place finish in the javelin with a throw of 33.0 meters.

Juniors Lyndon Walters (Queens, NY) and John Benvin (Thornwood, NY) doubled in the 100 and 200 meter dashes for the men with Walters placing 24th (11.68) and 39th (23.22), and Benvin finishing 40th (13.44) and 47th (26.69), respectively.
In the men's 800 meter run, senior Peter Yarema (Northport, NY) posted a time of 2:12.52 to finish 60th, followed by Kevin Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina) in 63rd at 2:20.06, and freshman Joon Hoon Lee (New Haven, CT) in 64th at 2:22.03. Yarema also finished 44th in the 1500 meter run at 4:28.28 and senior Tom Cannariato (Goshen, NY) placed 45th at 4:30.43.
Rounding out the men's competition was David Hunte (Trinidad & Tobago), posting a mark of 13.99 meters in the triple jump.
