Six Records Set as Mercy Women Finish 15th at CTC Outdoor Championships, Men Tie for 17th
ALLENTOWN, PA - The Mercy College outdoor track and field teams wrapped up the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championships on Sunday. The women's squad finished the event in 15th place, while the men tied for 17th with Lehman.
The day saw six new Mercy College outdoor track and field records set. Sasha Atkins (Bronx, NY) established new marks in the women's 100m (13.41 seconds - tied for 10th place), 200m (27.24 seconds - 14th place) and long jump with a mark of 4.35 meters, good for 12th place. Lyndon Walters (Queens, NY) lowered the men's 100m and 200m records to 11.55 seconds and 23.01 seconds, respectively. The men's 4x800m relay team of Jose Gomez (Monroe, NY), Thomas Cannariato (Goshen, NY), Peter Yarema (Northport, NY) and Kevin Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina) lowered the school mark to 8:52.

In other women's competition, Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) finished 11th in the women's 800m run (2:34.31). Janet Wong (Vancouver, BC) the women's javelin champion, tied for 9th in the high jump (1.45m).
For the men, John Benvin (Thornwood, NY) doubled in the 100m and 200m dash with times of 13.24 and 26.51. Gomez also ran the open 800m in a time of 2:10.97 (26th place) and teammate Joon Hoon Lee (New Haven, CT) running in his first ever competition at that distance finished 31st. Cannariato was the Mavericks' top 1500m finisher in a time of 4:35 followed closely by Yarema (4:38). Joon Yeob Lee (New Haven, CT) was another top ten finisher leaping 6.03m in the men's long jump. Tyrik Overton (Tarrytown, NY) finished in 10th clearing the high jump bar at 1.75m.
The team returns to action on Sunday, April 27, when they travel to Yale University's Springtime Invitational in New Haven, CT.
