Mercy College Track and Field Shines at Jaspers Last Chance Meet
RIVERDALE, NY - The Mercy College indoor track and field teams picked up more new program records and a pair of wins at the Jaspers Last Chance Meet, hosted by Manhattan College on Saturday.
The horizontal jump tandem of freshman Joon Yeob Lee (New Haven,CT) and junior David Hunte (Kitchener, Ontario) surpassed their own school record marks. Lee finished as the fifth collegian with a jump of 6.38m (20'11 1/4"). The four finishers in front him were from Division I Manhattan College. Hunte improved upon his school record triple jump by nearly a foot, finishing third with a mark of 13.76m (45'1 1/4").
Mercy's vertical leapers Janet Wong (Vancouver, British Columbia) and Tyrik Overton (Tarrytown, NY) finished sixth and third (second collegian) in the high jump, respectively. Wong cleared the bar at 1.45m and Overton cleared 1.84m.
Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) won the women's 800m by one-tenth of a second over Manhattan's Dana Miscia in a time of 2:36.1. Klobus also finished second in the women's 400m event in 70 seconds. Jose Gomez (Monroe, NY) ran a focused 800m race, finishing second. Eric Duffy (Carmel, NY) finished third in the 400m in a time of 54.9 seconds. The men's 4x400m relay team of Joon Yeob Lee, Eric Duffy, Jose Gomez and Peter Yarema (Northport, NY) won the event.
"We continued to make progress toward our team and individual goals today," said head coach Dr. Darryl Bullock. "It was a great workout and as a team we exhibited more focus and tenacity.
The Mavericks will return to action on Friday, February 29, at the New Balance Track & Field Center, when they compete in the NYU Fast Track Meet.
