Mavericks Set Two More New Records at Deschriver Indoor Track & Field Invitational

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA - Two new records were established as the Mercy College track and field teams were in action at the Deschriver Invitational, hosted by East Stroudsburg University, on Saturday.

In his first event as a Maverick, junior David Hunte (Kitchener, Ontario) set a new record in the men's triple jump with a mark of 42' 10", finishing fifth overall.  The Mercy 4x800 relay team of senior Tom Cannariato (Goshen, NY), senior Peter Yarema (Northport, NY), junior Jose Gomez (Monroe, NY), and junior Kevin Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina) also set an indoor program record, finishing in 9:06.66 and placing seventh overall.

Sophomore Tyrik Overton (Tarrytown, NY) tied for fifth place in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.83 meters. Senior Eric Duffy (Carmel, NY) continued to race well, posting an 18th place finish out of 38 competitors in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.70 seconds. Freshman Joon Yeob Lee (New Haven, CT) finished tied for 15th in the long jump, registering a mark of 5.96 meters, and placed 58th in the 55 meter dash at 7.33 seconds. In the one mile run, Yarema posted a time of 5:01.96 to place 29th, and Gomez finished 36th at 5:13.85. Gibson placed 18th in the 500 meter run, posting a time of 1:20.45 and junior John Benvin (Thornwood, NY) finished 41st in the 200 meter dash at 27.32 seconds.

On the women's side, junior Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) finished 12th in the 3000 meter run with a time of 12:11.39, and 21st in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:37.39.  Sophomore Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) tied for 13th in the high jump, registering a mark of 1.42 meters. Sophomore Sasha Atkins (Bronx, NY) finished in 20th place in the 400 meter dash at 1:06.18, and returned to place 13th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.27 seconds.

The Mavericks return to action on Sunday, February 10th when they travel to Yale University for the 2008 Collegiate Track Conference Championships beginning at Noon.
