Mercy College Track & Field Competes at Great Dane Classic
BRONX, NY - The Mercy College track and field teams resumed their indoor season by competing in the Great Dane Classic on Friday.
Senior Tom Cannariato (Goshen, NY) and senior Eric Duffy (Carmel, NY) highlighted the event with strong performances on the men's side. Duffy turned in a time of 54.44 seconds in the 400 meter dash to finish 49th overall, while Cannariato finished 28th in the one mile run with a time of 4:52.5.
In the men's 55 meter dash, freshman Joon Yeob Lee (New Haven, CT) took 38th place with a time of 7.18 seconds, sophomore Richard Price (Thornwood, NY) placed 42nd at 7.29 seconds, and sophomore John Benvin (Thornwood, NY) finished 44th at 7.68 seconds. Price also placed 69th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.3 seconds and Benvin placed 70th at 27.05 seconds. Sophomore Tyrik Overton (Tarrytown, NY) posted a mark of 1.86 meters in the high jump to tie for 11th place. In the men's 4x400 relay, the team of Duffy, Overton, Joon Yeob Lee and Joon Hoon Lee (New Haven, CT) placed 29th with a time of 3:50.11.
On the women's side, sophomore Sasha Atkins (Bronx, NY) placed 56th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.34 seconds and recorded a time of 1:08.29 in the 400 meter dash to finish 53rd. Sophomore Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) also tied for 15th in the high jump with a mark of 1.45 meters.
The Mavericks will return to action on Saturday at the DeSchriver Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg University.
