Mercy Women's Cross Country Finishes 14th at ECAC
Championships, Men Place 15th at IC4A Championships

BRONX, NY - The Mercy College men's and women's cross country teams closed out the 2006 season on Saturday, November 18, at Van Cortlandt Park.  The women's team finished 14th in the 22nd Annual ECAC Championships, and the men's squad placed 15th in the 98th Annual IC4A Championship race. Mercy was the only Division II program participating in the Championship Division, competing against all Division I programs.

Sophomore Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) was Mercy's top finisher in the women's race. She ran the 3.1 mile course in a time of 22:26.  Senior Khadijah Khan (Montreal, Canada) was right behind her at 24:59, followed by sophomore Jessica Fabian (Whitehall, PA) with a time of 27:07, freshman Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) in 27:08, and sophomore Latasha Williams (Bronx, NY) in 37:57.

Senior captain Edward Murray (West Islip, NY) paced the men's team, crossing the finish line of the five-mile course in a time of 29:33.  He was followed closely by junior Peter Yarema (Northport, NY) with a time of 30:09, junior Thomas Cannariato (Goshen, NY) in 30:25, sophomore Jose Gomez (Monroe, NY) at 32:28, and sophomore Kevin Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina) in 33:05.

"I made the decision to compete in the Championship Division rather than the University Division to give the team the opportunity of competing at the highest level of our sport," said head coach Darryl Bullock. "Years from now they will recall their races against Princeton, William & Mary, Villanova, Cornell, Georgetown and Columbia to name just a few.  I am proud of their effort today."

Coach Bullock and his teams will now turn their attention to the indoor track and field season, which will kick-off on Friday, December 1, at the Fordham Opener.
