Results

BRONX, NY - Mercy sophomore Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) placed 12th out of 65 competitors at the 2006 East Coast Conference (ECC) Cross Country Championships to earn a spot on the All-ECC Second Team on Sunday, October 22.  The Flyers' men's team finished fifth out of nine teams. The women did not score as a team.

Klobus ran the 5K race at Van Cortlandt Park in a time of 21:28, becoming only the second female in Mercy cross country history to earn All-Conference honors. Running in their first collegiate races ever, senior Khadijah Khan (Montreal, Canada) and sophomore Jessica Fabian (Whitehall, PA) placed 36th and 54th, respectively.  Khan finished in a time of 23:56, while Fabian ran the course in 26:34.

The Mercy men had four runners finish in the top 30, led by senior Miguel Reyes (Haverstraw, NY), who placed 20th with a time of 29:09.03, on the 8K course.  Senior Edward Murray (W. Islip, NY) was right behind him in 22nd, finishing in 29:29.36, his personal best at Van Cortlandt Park. Sophomore Jose Gomez (Monroe, NY) and junior Tom Cannariato (Goshen, NY) placed 25th and 26th, with times of 29:59.46, and 30:00.07, respectively. Junior Peter Yarema (Northport, NY) finished 39th in a time of 30:54.19, junior Daniel Reeves (Babylon, NY) placed 47th at 32:19.82, and sophomore Kevin Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina) ran a time of 33:07.29 to finish 50th.

"The team gave everything they had today," said head coach Darryl Bullock. "Miguel and Tom both ran gutsy races and I'm happy for Edward, our senior captain. Jose, Peter, Danny and Kevin solidified our team placement."

"I'm also very happy for Katelyn," added Bullock.  "Her All-Conference performance is the culmination of a season of smart running, and racing. This outcome will strengthen her confidence and she will keep getting better.  Khadijah and Jessica represented themselves and Mercy very well in their first ever race."

The Mercy College men's and women's cross country teams will be in action again on November 5, at the NCAA Regionals.
