Tyrik Overton and Janet Wong Up Mercy College High Jump Marks at NYU Fast Track Invitational
NEW YORK, NY - Freshmen Tyrik Overton (Tarrytown, NY) and Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) each broke their own school records in the high jump as the Mercy College track and field teams competed in the NYU Fast Track Invitational at the New Balance National Track and Field Center.
Overton cleared the bar at 1.86m (6 feet, 1.25 inches) to finish in seventh place, while Wong increased her school mark to 1.5m (4 feet, 11 inches), placing 12th. Freshman Carl Spence (St. Catherine's, Jamaica) competed in the men's 60m, finishing in a time of 7.61 seconds to place 51st.
The NYU Fast Track Invitational is a premier track and field event where student-athletes come from around the country in a last chance to meet provisional and/or automatic marks for NCAA, ECAC and IC4A competition.
"The fact that we had three freshmen so close speaks volumes about these three young people and the positive direction of our track and field program," said head coach Darryl Bullock.
The Mercy College track and field teams will close out the indoor campaign at next weekend's Metropolitan Athletics Congress Open Championships.
