Janet Wong and Tyrik Overton Set New School Records for Mercy Track & Field at CTC and ECC Championships
NEW HAVEN, CT - The Mercy College indoor track and field teams were in action at the combined Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) and East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships this weekend. Freshman Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) highlighted the day with an ECC first place finish for the Flyers in the women's high jump.
Wong's new school record of 1.46m in the event was the best among ECC competitors and good for ninth place in the CTC standings. In the men's high jump, freshman Tyrik Overton (Tarrytown, NY) also set a new school record, taking second place in the ECC and seventh in the CTC with a mark of 1.81m.
"Janet and Tyrik were so solid today in the high jump," said head coach Darryl Bullock. "Their early jumps were encouraging and when faced with challenges, they displayed positive resolve. I am extremely proud of their efforts."
The Flyers finished the day with a total of five top three finishes in the ECC. Senior Sharon Sklar (Chappaqua, NY) finished third in the women's shot put with a throw of 7.06m (20th CTC). Senior Schadrac St. Louis (Garnerville, NY) placed third in the men's triple jump at 12.56m (9th CTC).
