Mercy Indoor Track & Field Competes at DeSchriver Invitational
EAST STROUDSBURG, PA - The Mercy College indoor track and field teams competed at the DeSchriver Invitational, hosted by East Stroudsburg University on Saturday, February 3.
The men's distance medley relay squad of junior Peter Yarema (Northport, NY), sophomore Kevin Gibson (Buenos Aires, Argentina), sophomore Jose Gomez (Monroe, NY) and junior Tom Cannariato (Goshen, NY) placed 10th with a time of 12:20.24. Freshman Carl Spence (St. Catherine's, Jamaica) finished the preliminaries of the 55m dash in a time of 7.23 seconds, tied for 49th out of 78 competitors, and placed 41st in the 200m dash in a time of 25.77. Senior Schadrac St. Louis (Garnerville, NY) ran a time of 26.10 to place 45th in the 200m, and finished 20th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.43m. In the men's mile, Cannariato finished 56th in a time of 5:19.79, with Yarema right behind him in 57th with a time of 5:19.86. Gibson paced Mercy in the 800m run, finishing in 2:15.48 to place 56th, with Yarema in 63rd at 2:21.82, and Gomez in 64th at 2:22.56.
On the women's side, sophomore Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY) finished 33rd out of 55 participants in the 800m run with a time of 2:38.36. Freshman Janet Wong (Vancouver, Canada) competed in the high jump, posting a mark of 1.42m to tie for 18th place.
"Today's event was an opportunity to assess individual strength in multiple events," said head coach Darryl Bullock. "With a week of smart training, I anticipate competitive performances at next weekend's Collegiate Track Conference and East Coast Conference championships in New Haven."
