NYRR "Thursday Night At The Races" - February 23. 2006
New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory
And thus another season (our seventh in fact as the series began in 2000) came to a close.  The 10,000m relays were a fitting climax with ebb and flow.
My thanks to the officials who really do make it happen:
Judith Allen
Helene Britton
Jacob Korn
Seth Okrend
Elizabeth Phillips
Mike Rauh
Warren Ring
Lou Vazquez
Special thanks to our registration team, Murna Williams and Mark Paulonis, Danielle May who so efficiently runs the finish line board, and to our medical assistant, Joanna Colon.
We will be back next year… but first we will have the track series at the Icahn Stadium in the summer… details to come.
Women's 1500m

What a race with TWO American masters records… Marisa Hanson executed a perfect race, laying off the early pace before unleashing a devastating finishing
kick to pass Lesley Higgins in the last 100 meters. Marisa was looking to go around 4:40 and break Alisa Harveys pending record of 4:41 but to break it by almost 5
seconds was a great achievement.  The joy on her and Steve Perks (coach) faces was sheer delight.  Meanwhile two high school students, Chelsea Borbella took 15 seconds
off her personal best, and the very talented sophomore Caitlin Lane ran very solid in her first race back from an indoor season badly disrupted by an ongoing injury.
And then Madelyn Noe-Schlentz took 1/2 a second off the masters record for 45-49.  Many will recall Madelyn running an American record some 5 years ago when she ran
4:59.9 to become the first master to run a sub five minute mile in indoor competition.

Now this is a fun but DEMANDING event… Synergy were on top of their game in heat 2 but they had to be as Team Sharon gave them a run for their money till the closing stages.
Earlier in heat 1 Chelsea Piers were relentless in putting away Team Mark.
We finished at 10:15pm… whereupon Coogans proved to be very popular.
