Ausiello, Puglisi Named to ECC Player of the Week Honor Roll
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 16, 2012) - On Monday afternoon, the East Coast Conference office released its weekly softball honors and senior shortstop Jenna Ausiello (Petaluma, Calif.) and sophomore pitcher Alexandra Puglisi (Shelton, Conn.) were tabbed to the Player of the Week Honor Roll.
Ausiello sizzled this week in eight games with an incredible .440 batting average (11-for-25), .562 on-base percentage, and .680 slugging percentage. She drove in three runs, scored six times, hit six doubles and walked seven times.
Puglisi was dominating this week as she noticed a 0.64 earned run average over 32.2 innings pitched as Mercy went 2-2 in her four starts. Both times the Mavericks lost, it was only by one run as Puglisi kept them in the contest the whole time. In all four games, she pitched at least 7.0 innings per game. Puglisi had 25 strikeouts.
This marks the second time this season that both Ausiello and Puglisi have earned Honor Roll accolades. In addition, Ausiello was selected as the Co-Player of the Week earlier this year.
Head Coach Mike Fazio and the Mavericks return to action tomorrow when they host ECC-opponent Queens College in a twinbill starting at 3:00 p.m. Mercy will try and keep its playoff hopes alive as it battles Queens, who possesses the fourth and final postseason tournament spot. The Mavericks need to win both contests against Queens to keep its playoff chances alive, as they then host league-leading Molloy College on Saturday.
