Marc Della Volpe Named Assistant Softball Coach

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Jan. 25, 2012) – Mercy College head softball coach Mike Fazio announced today the hiring of Marc J. Della Volpe as an assistant softball coach for the spring 2012 season.  Della Volpe will work with the pitchers and outfielders while also being responsible for camp and clinic operations as well as assisting in recruiting.

"Marc is a great addition to our program," Fazio said.  "At Fordham and Manhattan, he assisted with and played an important part in the building of those programs.  He has experience recruiting top quality student-athletes and has helped teams win wherever he has been.  I think Marc will be a great fit for our program as we seek to repeat last year's success and build a winning tradition here at Mercy for the future."

Della Volpe joins the Mavericks with four years of Division I coaching experience, having coached at nearby Fordham University from 2001-04, during which time he was a member of the 2003 Atlantic 10 Coaching Staff of the Year.  More recently, he worked as an assistant at Manhattan College from 2004-05 before taking a head coaching position at Montclair Kimberly Academy, where he led the varsity squad to a state title.

A graduate of Belford University, Della Volpe earned a bachelor's degree in education and a master's in educational administration after receiving an associate's degree from Essex County College.  He attended Bellville High School in Belleville, N.J.

The softball team will begin its season with a trip to Florida from March 10-16 before returning to Dobbs Ferry for a home-opening doubleheader with Holy Family University.
