Softball Drops Doubleheader to Molloy
The Mercy College softball team dropped both ends of a
doubleheader to
Molloy College on Friday, April 23, 11-0 and 16-0. Molloy, the #4
team in the latest NCAA East Region rankings, improves to 33-11
(16-4 East Coast Conference), while Mercy falls to 16-22 (7-15
ECC).
In game one, Molloy scored seven runs in the top of the first inning, and cruised to the win. Pitcher Kelley Jansen managed to no-hit the Mavericks. The sole baserunner for Mercy came in the second inning, when freshman Ashley Johnstone (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) managed a walk.
Game two was more of the same, though Mercy did manage one hit, a Paige Cauley (Stratford, N.J./Iona College) single to lead off the fourth inning.
Mercy travels to face NYIT on Saturday for a doubleheader. Game one starts at noon.
